Parkinson’s Support Center of Kentuckiana Launches Feet to the Fire Writers’ Workshops® as a New Ongoing Program for PD Constituents
Louisville, KY February 18, 2019 – Parkinson Support Center of Kentuckiana is thrilled to announce our 2019 partnership with Feet to the Fire Writers’ Workshops®!
“Parkinson Support Center of Kentuckiana is the first PD organization in the U.S. to adopt the Feet to the Fire Writers’ Workshops® program to promote emotional well-being and social connection through writing. The FTTF program allows PD constituents the opportunity to consider, reflect and create their own life narratives, while strengthening social connections and forming close bonds with each other.”
“Our initial pilot last summer was super successful and the results were, well, amazing! We know that writing is not only therapeutic, but also our program encourages social connection and self-expression through writing, which is beyond valuable. We’re looking forward to launching with the PD community!” said Angela Burton, Founder.
“The Thief of My Confidence, The Coveting, and The Diagnosis, You Have Parkinson’s are just a small sample of the writings from the pilot program of Feet to the Fire Writers’ Workshops®! This program has started a ripple effect throughout the PD community. Our constituents are overcoming barriers such as micrographia (small handwriting) and hypokinetic dysarthria (voice and speech disorder) to tell their stories. We realize that not everyone will participate in exercise classes or support groups and it is equally as important to our organization to find creative avenues for our constituents to combat feelings of helplessness or isolation and to develop a sense of belonging.” Erika Branch, Parkinson Support Center, Director.
We would like to give special recognition to the Vinger Family as it has gifted the Evansville, IN community with the financial sponsorship for the workshop. “I think it is really exciting to have this new opportunity for the PD community in Evansville. We all know we need to exercise our bodies, but sometimes we don’t think about exercising our creativity. This will be a chance for us to use our creativity in a fun and supportive environment. We will tap into our memories and bring to life stories that we hadn’t thought about for years – stories that are just waiting to be told!” Lynn Penland, Evansville Program Facilitator.
This March, the program will launch in both Louisville, KY and Evansville, IN. For more information and registration details call 502.254.3388.
